CeDeFi — short for Centralized Decentralized Finance — combines elements of centralized finance (CeFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). It brings together the user experience, compliance measures, and customer support commonly associated with centralized platforms with blockchain-based services such as staking, lending, and liquidity pools.
Many CeDeFi platforms also implement compliance procedures such as Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks.
Several projects illustrate different approaches to combining centralized and decentralized financial services.
BNB Smart Chain is often associated with the early development of the CeDeFi concept. It offers Ethereum-compatible smart contracts, relatively low transaction fees, and a validator model that is more centralized than many other blockchain networks.
OKX provides access to various blockchain services, including staking and other on-chain products, through a centralized exchange interface that incorporates regulatory compliance features.
BounceBit focuses on Bitcoin-based yield strategies, including BTC restaking, within a framework that combines centralized infrastructure with decentralized protocols.
Midas integrates decentralized finance strategies into a managed platform designed to simplify access to blockchain-based yield products while providing additional portfolio management tools.
As a regulated digital asset bank, Sygnum offers services such as tokenization, staking, and digital asset lending within a regulated financial environment.
Binance provides products that allow users to access selected decentralized finance protocols through its centralized platform, simplifying interaction with DeFi services.
These platforms combine centralized trading features with access to decentralized liquidity and blockchain services, while incorporating compliance measures and curated protocol integrations.
For example, SwapSpace, a non-custodial crypto exchange aggregator, pools liquidity from multiple CEXs and DEXs through its exchange partners. This approach allows users to compare available exchange rates across different liquidity sources through a single interface while retaining the non-custodial nature of the swap process.
