Enzyme is an Ethereum-based blockchain protocol for the assets’ decentralized management that empowers developers to build and scale investment strategies of their choice, from discretionary and robots-based to ETFs and market making. The project also relies on security and offers it a second-generation smart contract-enforced platform which was thoroughly tested and audited before any mainnet deployments are made.
Enzyme allows depositors to interact with Vaults in a non-custodial way that requires minimal trust between parties. Vault managers can be obliged to do certain actions or prohibited to do it. Live accounting is available for performance and fees which are provable with on-chain data using the Enzyme subgraph. It also allows to retrieval of other useful importing data (trading history, deposits, withdrawals) and makes them available and transparent for other users of the network. Policies such as fees or behaviors around investments can be easily configured and imposed on the Vaults level. Vaults also can delegate trading and other Vaults to third-party addresses.
Thanks to the high customizability of Enzyme, users can build almost anything in DeFi, so the project is sometimes referred to as DeFi operating system. Even if it’s not possible through the interface, smart contracts will most probably allow the needed function.
Vaults can only be upgraded from one version of the protocol to the next if the Vault Managers opt in and signal an upgrade. If the depositors are not agreed with the update, they can just opt out.
Users can look for a proven track record on Enzyme, letting the platform manage it, while they can retain all custody over the assets. Another advantage of the platform is that it provides full transparency about how strategies are performing, as well as the data about how they are set, operated, and composed.
On Enzyme users can easily see and operate their vaults, and with the appliance of the in-build accounting tools, they are also capable of reporting back in real-time to depositors. Developers also started working on the Enzyme SDK, which will make it easier for others to build on Enzyme over time. The vault on Enzyme allows easy interactions with certain activities (yield farming, staking, lending, and borrowing, swapping assets on DEX, AMM pools, etc.).
Enzyme already provides users with many possibilities, and the project team continues to work on adding new use cases. The existing ones include trading on DEXs, lending (e.g AAVE, Alpha Homora, Compound, etc.), providing liquidity on Curve and Uniswap, trading synthetics (long and short), yield farming, and so on.
Security is one of the main priorities for the Enzyme project team. The Enzyme council mainly consists of technical experts. Formally the contracts have been audited by PWC, and there is a big audit by Zeppelin upcoming in the Q3 of 2022. The project runs one of the greatest bounty programs ($250,000), and has recently teamed up with Immunefi to give it more visibility.
MLN is the native token of the Enzyme protocol. It is used to pay fees on the Enzyme network and it’s also used to incentivize developers to build on Enzyme. The token has a total supply of 2,070,263, with almost all the tokens being in current circulation.
Enzyme is governed by the Enzyme Council, the DAO of the project, which consists of technical experts, and user representatives.
Average Fees on Enzyme
The fees on the Enzyme network consist of three fee types: a management fee, a performance fee, and an entrance fee. The protocol now is transitioning towards an AUM-based fee which was implemented in Q3 2021. That will make the fee 25bps on Assets Under Management, and will directly align interest between users of the network and the value of the MLN token, which primarily incentivizes the development, maintenance, and security of the network.
The creation of Vault is free, but the user will have to cover the Ethereum gas fees, which will vary depending on the complexity embedded within the Vault and the gas prices.
