What Is HiFI Finance? 

Hifi Finance is a fixed-rate, fixed-term lending protocol built on the Ethereum blockchain. It provides users with instant liquidity. The project was first known as the Mainframe but was later rebranded to Hifi finance in February 2021. At the initial stage, it was built with the intention to allow any decentralized application to send data, store files, manage payments, run tasks, and so on. 

HiFi uses a bond-like instrument, representing an on-chain obligation that settles on a specific future day. Buying and selling tokenized debt enables fixed-rate, fixed-term lending and borrowing. The users can borrow the assets, locking up the collateral in the vault to mint fixed-rate, fixed-term debt tokens, that can be swapped for instant liquidity allowing users to leverage long, yield farm, or pursue other strategic trades without selling their collateral tokens. 

The users can also buy fixed-rate, fixed-term debt tokens for a discount. When the term expires the tokens can be redeemed for face value, so the lenders earn a predictable return for their investment. Also, users can become liquidity providers and earn trading fees by providing liquidity between debt tokens and stablecoins on an Automated Market Maker. 

The system balances the incentives between borrowers, lenders, and guarantors, each representing a distinct and complementary position of economic exposure. Through the lending protocol, the participants of the network can also vote for the incentives, unlock discounts, access additional leverage, and achieve greater capital efficiency. 

The project was launched by Mick Hagen in 2017. During 2018 and 2019, the project team released the decentralized chat application and decentralized application system, but both products didn’t gain much traction and were gone. So the team has decided to turn to DeFi and started the development of decentralized lending and borrowing platform. In early 2020 the role of the project CEO was transferred to Doug Leonard, who has been a part of the team since early 2018. 

Prior to the official launch there was an ICO held on February 2018, that raised over $20 million at a token price of $0.01. 

Hifi already has a whole ecosystem of new projects and partnerships built on top of the Hifi protocol. Those projects help Hifi to expand its reach and offer users more possibilities. The center of the ecosystem is the Hifi lending protocol, which allows users to lend against crypto. The lenders can buy and sell tokenized debt with fixed-rate borrowing and lending.

The project has delivered its NFT collection called Pawn Boots which was introduced in April 2022. It provides instant liquidity and was architectured as ground collateral and allows collectors to borrow against the value of the collectible. The last collection upgrade was at the end of August 2022 with the new limited edition attributes — ceramic white body color. 

The ecosystem also includes the Sablier Streaming Protocol, which eliminates the hassle of running the payroll by allowing smart contracts to stream the money. It used to be a part of Hifi protocol, but in April 2022 the project team decided to separate it, making an independent product with the dedicated team. 

At the beginning of August, HiFi Finance updated its roadmap, announcing the work on the anticipated HiFi token swap proposal. The project also plans to finally deploy its mainnet on the Ethereum blockchain.  

MFT is the native token of the protocol. It is used for protocol governance, staking to ensure the safety of the protocol, and also as a token to reward the stakes. The token was launched in Q1 2018 and has a total supply of 10 billion coins. All of them were vested and distributed.
