The incident

  1. On June 11, 2024, MetaArena identified unauthorized access to one of its wallets, misappropriating 46,550,000 META tokens.

  2. This breach exploited vulnerabilities within third-party integrations, allowing attackers to briefly gain control of significant funds.

  3. The stolen tokens were quickly transferred through intermediary wallets and partially converted into other cryptocurrencies.

  4. A notable portion — 87,613 KLAY (equivalent to $11,340) — was processed through the Klaytn blockchain on SwapSpace.

Upon receiving the alert, SwapSpace’s fraud prevention team immediately began analyzing transactions in real time, tracking the movement of stolen funds using advanced monitoring tools.

During our analysis, we identified 87,613 KLAY, equivalent to $11,340, being processed through SwapSpace as part of the laundering attempt. We swiftly flagged the transaction, preventing the funds from being converted or moved.

To further strengthen our response, we worked closely with MetaArena and blockchain security teams, sharing transaction details to identify additional compromised wallets and prevent further unauthorized transfers.

Outcomes

SwapSpace’s swift action helped minimize the impact of the MetaArena breach. We successfully intercepted and recovered 87,613 KLAY, valued at $11,340 before it could be laundered. The recovered funds were returned to MetaArena in Ethereum, preventing further losses.

By securing part of the stolen funds and helping disrupt the laundering attempt, SwapSpace demonstrated the critical role of rapid response and industry cooperation in protecting digital assets.
